The most common questions about shipping, returns, subscription and products, answered honestly. Whatever is not covered here, we are happy to answer personally at hello@wauwow.store.
Shipping and delivery time
How long does delivery take?
Delivery usually takes 2 to 3 working days within Germany, 3 to 4 working days to Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, and 6 to 7 working days to Switzerland.
How much does shipping cost?
Germany: €5.90, free from €69 order value. Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands: €7.50 up to 2 kg total weight, €9.50 above that, free from €89 order value. Switzerland: CHF 15.00 up to 2 kg, CHF 18.00 above that, free from €100 order value (around CHF 95). More on the page Shipping and delivery.
Why is there a minimum order value?
We have a minimum order value of 35 euros (value of goods excluding shipping), and 50 CHF for delivery to Switzerland. Packing, shipping and transporting a parcel costs almost the same whatever is inside. With a very small basket that eats up the entire price, and it makes no economic or ecological sense: for a parcel with a single chew bone, the same van drives out as for a full parcel.
We still want to offer inexpensive items and small things like snacks that basically cost little. That is why the limit is deliberately low. If you want a snack or a low-priced item, simply add something else, ideally something your dog will soon need anyway. That way we send one parcel instead of two, and everyone benefits.
The limit applies to every order, including with a voucher code or shipping promotion. If something is missing, the checkout shows you exactly how much.
I'm from Switzerland. What should I know?
Switzerland is outside the EU customs area. Smaller shipments often remain duty-free, but with larger order values import VAT and a handling fee from the carrier may be added, which you pay as the recipient.
Returns and withdrawal
How long can I return an item?
You have a 14-day right of withdrawal from receipt of the goods, without giving a reason. You can declare the withdrawal informally by email to hello@wauwow.store or via the Withdraw from contract function in the footer.
Who pays the return costs?
With a regular withdrawal you pay the cost of returning the item yourself. If an item is faulty or was delivered wrongly, however, we cover the return costs in full, just write us a short email at hello@wauwow.store.
Where do I have to send an item back?
Report your withdrawal or return to us first, using the withdrawal form or by email to hello@wauwow.store. We will then give you the return address. Everything else is explained under Returns and exchanges.
Can I exchange an item?
Yes. You can exchange an item 1:1 for the same item in a different size or colour, subject to availability. You pay the shipping costs for the return and the new delivery, for defects we exchange free of charge. Write to us at hello@wauwow.store for this.
What do I do if an item is defective or was delivered wrongly?
Write us a short email at hello@wauwow.store. For a defective or wrongly delivered item we cover the return costs: you get a return label, or we refund your postage. The exchange is free then too, the details are under Returns and exchanges.
Refill subscription
What is Nachschub?
For items you reorder regularly anyway, such as food or chews, you can set up a subscription: every two weeks with ten percent off, every four weeks with 7.5 percent or every eight weeks with five percent. It is set up directly on the product page, where the option is available.
How do I pause or cancel my subscription?
You can do this at any time yourself in your customer account under "Subscriptions", with no notice period: if you cancel before the next payment, you pay nothing more. For a different delivery rhythm, or if you do not use a customer account, write to us at hello@wauwow.store or use the page Cancel contracts here.
Fit and material
How do I find the right coat size?
What matters is the back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail and the chest girth at the widest point, both measured while standing. The binding size chart is on the product itself, instructions for measuring are in our dog coat guide.
Where do your size and material details come from?
Size, material and care details come from the manufacturers of the respective items. If something does not fit or something is wrong with the goods, just get in touch, we will sort it out without fuss.
How do I care for coats and beds properly?
The care instructions, such as washing temperature or whether the tumble dryer is allowed, are in the product description of the respective item. They differ depending on the material and manufacturer.
Coats, jackets and cold
Does my dog really need a coat?
Not every dog needs a coat, but many benefit: short-haired breeds, very small dogs, puppies, seniors, sick or very slim dogs regulate their body temperature less well on their own. For them a coat is not fashion but protection against getting chilled.
At what temperature does a dog need a coat?
There is no fixed limit, it depends on coat, size, age and health. As a rough guide: short-haired and small dogs often get cold below 10 degrees, larger dogs with dense coats tolerate much lower temperatures without a coat. Watch your dog, that tells you more than any number.
How can I tell my dog is cold?
Typical signs are shivering, an arched back, a tucked tail, reluctance to keep walking or sitting down in the middle of a walk. If your dog shows this regularly, a coat is a sensible help.
Which dog breeds benefit most from a coat?
Mainly short-haired or hairless breeds such as sighthounds, Dobermanns, Chihuahuas or French Bulldogs, and also very young, old or sick dogs regardless of breed. You will find details in our dog coat guide.
Is a raincoat worthwhile, or is a normal coat enough?
In constant rain it is: a waterproof raincoat keeps the fur dry, saves you drying off at home and prevents colds in sensitive dogs. A normal, non-waterproof coat does warm, but tends to soak up rain. More in our raincoat guide.
Which coat size does my dog need?
Measure back length and chest girth as described in the size chart on the respective product. For the cold season, a model with some room for a warming sweater underneath is better than one that fits tightly.
Are dog sweaters worthwhile?
Yes, mainly as an extra warm layer under a waterproof coat, or indoors for very short-haired dogs that get cold. In wet weather outdoors a sweater alone is usually not enough, you also need waterproof material.
Is a life jacket for dogs worthwhile?
Yes, especially for inexperienced swimmers, puppies, older dogs or water sports with a current. It gives buoyancy and makes the dog easier to see in the water.
How do I get my dog used to a coat?
Step by step: let your dog sniff the coat first, then put it on briefly with a treat and go straight outside. Never put it on just to stay indoors afterwards, otherwise your dog learns that the coat means nothing good. A coat that fits properly and pinches nowhere makes getting used to it much easier, more in The seven phases of putting on a coat.
What is a Mackintosh coat?
A Mackintosh coat is made of coated cotton fabric, is completely waterproof and usually has a belly strap to stop it slipping. It is a bit stiffer than a softshell coat and rustles, but does not add warmth. It is good for a short walk in the rain, the comparison is in Dog raincoat: Mackintosh or softshell.
How do I protect my dog's paws from road salt?
Avoid salted paths where you can, and clean the paws after the walk with lukewarm water or a damp cloth, also between the pads. Dry thoroughly, because damp paws crack faster in the cold. With redness, cracks or limping, your dog belongs at the vet. More in Dogs and road salt.
Leads and harnesses
Is a harness better than a collar?
For most dogs, yes: a harness spreads the pull over chest and back instead of the sensitive neck area, especially important for dogs that pull, and for small and short-nosed breeds. A well-fitting collar still has its place, for example for the ID tag.
Y-harness or H-harness, what is the difference?
A Y-harness lies in a Y shape across the chest and leaves the shoulders free to move, which is considered gentler on movement. An H-harness runs in two parallel straps and often sits a bit more stably, but can restrict shoulder movement if the fit is wrong. In the end the correct fit matters, not the shape alone.
What is a long line and what do I need it for?
A long line is a lead 5 to 10 metres long for training recall and independent exploring in meadows and woods, without letting the dog off the lead completely. For the normal everyday walk in town it is too long and unwieldy.
What is the difference between a normal lead and a long line?
The normal lead is the classic short lead for everyday use, usually 1 to 2 metres, for guided walking in town, on roads or in busy areas. The long line is much longer and meant for training and free exploring, see above.
Why are retractable leads controversial?
Because they can pull hard on the neck when the dog suddenly sprints or brakes, and in an emergency the dog can hardly be held back in a controlled way. For relaxed running in open fields they are fine, but in traffic or in town we recommend a fixed, short lead.
Long line: 5 or 10 metres?
5 metres are enough for meadows with some visibility and for starting training, and they are easier to handle. 10 metres give more freedom, but need more space and practice so the line does not tangle. In traffic and on busy paths a long line is the wrong tool. More in Long lines for dogs.
How important is visibility on walks in the dark?
In the winter months it gets dark early, and a dark dog is hard to see. The basis is reflective elements on the harness, lead or coat, because they work without batteries and are noticed sooner on moving parts such as harness and lead. A small light on the harness helps you find your dog again in the meadow. More in Walking in the dark.
Beds and blankets
Should a dog lie on something soft or firm?
That depends on the dog. Young, healthy dogs do well with softer beds, older dogs or breeds with joint problems benefit from firmer, orthopaedic beds with supportive foam.
Is an orthopaedic dog bed worthwhile?
Especially for large, heavy and older dogs, yes: it noticeably relieves joints and spine while lying down. For young, light dogs without complaints, a normal bed is usually enough.
What size should the dog bed be?
Your dog should be able to stretch out fully while lying and turn comfortably without sticking out over the edge. As a rule of thumb: back length plus about 15 to 20 centimetres in length and width. A slightly bigger bed does no harm, one that is too small restricts the lying position.
Are dog beds washable?
With most of our models the cover is removable and washable, the exact care instructions are always in the product description of the respective item.
How often should I wash the dog bed?
There is no fixed rule. As a rough guide: wash the cover every few weeks, sooner after mud, wet fur or when the bed smells. Washing temperature and tumble dryer depend on the care label and the product description. A guide is in Washing a dog bed: how to do it right.
Chews and bowls
Which snacks are healthy for dogs?
As a rule: as few additives as possible, a clearly recognisable main ingredient and an amount that suits your dog's size and activity. You will find details on ingredients for every snack in the product description.
Which bowl material is best?
Stainless steel is generally considered particularly hygienic because bacteria do not settle on it as easily as on plastic, and it stays tasteless. Ceramic is also hygienic, but heavier and more fragile, plastic is light but more prone to scratches in which germs can settle.
